Realism or surrealism - Copernicus and his theories

The Światowid European Meetings Centre invites you to celebrate together the "Copernican Year" through a nationwide photographic competition for adults entitled "Realism or surrealism - Copernicus and his theories". The competition is addressed to all those involved in photography, whether professional or amateur.

We invite adults aged 18 and over, amateurs, professionals - including students and graduates of art faculties at universities, and all those interested in photography and the creation of photographic images.

The participant's task is to create a realistic or surreal photographic image depicting the person of Copernicus, his scientific achievements or the heliocentric theory. The recorded images in any photographic category and technique can be the final image or the starting point, the raw material for further creation. Through creative post-production, candidates can diverge from reality and create new worlds from the perspective of Nicolaus Copernicus - the great astronomer, lawyer, physician and author of the treatise 'On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres'.

Participants are free to choose the category/type of photography, not excluding time-lapse photography.

Each participant may submit only one individual work. Collective works will not be assessed. The authors of the best works will be awarded prizes and their works will appear in a post-competition exhibition. The prizes in the competition are financial. Commemorative diplomas will be awarded to the winners.

For information on the competition please contact the coordinator: Dorota Grabowska,

The deadline for submitting entries is 31 July 2023. The competition regulations and application form are available to download below.
