The Metropolitan Opera: "Der Rosenkavalier"

The season of broadcasts from The Metropolitan Opera is in full swing! Ahead of us is a sensational staging of Strauss's opera titled. "Der Rosenkavalier" is Strauss' most popular opera. The excellent libretto combines elements of comedy, fantasy, and drama, but also tackles philosophical and social themes. The music, on the other hand, to the sophistication of Mozart and the epic grandeur of Wagner. The staging, directed by Robert Carsen, will feature a star-studded cast. Soprano Lise Davidsen will make her Met stage debut in the role of the Marschallin, while mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey will play the role of Octavian. Partnering with them will be soprano Erin Morley in the role of Sophie. Bass Günther Groissböck will return to the Met as Baron Ochs. Also on stage, we will see Brian Mulligan in the role of Sophie's father, Mr von Faninal. The orchestra will be conducted by Simone Young.
