Centrum Spotkań Europejskich "Światowid" in Elbląg invites you to take part in the regional preliminaries of the 68th National Recitation Contest. The preliminaries will take place on 10 May 2023. Applications will be accepted until 4 May 2023. We invite you!
The contest is an event for amateurs; secondary school students, university students and adults are invited. Participants can take part in the following tournaments: recitation, sung poetry, spoken word and one-actor theatre.
Centrum Spotkań Europejskich"Światowid" in Elbląg has been organising the regional preliminaries of the National Recitation Contest for many years. The competition has a long history - its organiser has been the Towarzystwo Kultury Teatralnej (Society for Theatre Culture) in Warsaw for over 100 years.
The district preliminaries are open to secondary school pupils and adults from Elbląg, Frombork, Tolkmicko, Młynary, Milejowo, Gronowo Elbląskie, Markusy, Rychlik, Pasłęk, Godkowo, Braniewo, Lelkowo, Płoskinia, Wilczęta and Pieniężno. The district competition will be held on 10 May (Wednesday) at 10:00 at the CSE "Światowid" in Elbląg on the Stage upstairs.
The year 2023 is special. In 1953, the National Recitation Competition was born and today it celebrates its 70th Jubilee! Although this edition has the number 68. It is impossible to overestimate this miracle of a generation creating a philosophy of the art of words, of the Polish language. This miracle was called by the poet Julian Przyboś the Free Movement of Creative Speech! When the Competition was born, the word was the basis of interpersonal communication, it described the world, it conveyed emotions... Today there is no place for it in the media, and it is becoming less and less common even in the theatre. A quarter of a century ago, one of the greatest word masters, Zbigniew Zapasiewicz, made a pessimistic diagnosis: I think that language will slowly disappear... After all, he treated it not as a sentence, but as a challenge. It seems obvious that the fight for fundamental values must be waged... It is our fate to practise this, perhaps, quixotic in the profound conviction that one should do so. Not just for artistic purposes, but simply to survive. Could there be a more incisive message to the 70th National Recitation Competition participants?
A. Recitation Competition
- The repertoire consists of 3 works in whole or in excerpts: 2 pieces of poetry and a piece of prose;
- the participant performs prose and a piece of poetry; the total performance time must not exceed 10 minutes.
B. Spoken word tournament
- repertoire is free (e.g. a poem or a fragment thereof, a literary monologue, a collage of texts),
- any form of presentation (e.g. one-line theatre, combining the spoken word with singing, sound, movement, and props),
- performance time must not exceed 7 minutes.
C. One-Actor Theatre Competition
- participants are required to prepare a performance based on any literary material (up to 30 minutes).
D. Singing Poetry Competition
- the repertoire consists of 3 sung pieces and 1 recited piece,
- participant performs 2 sung pieces, and 1 recited piece; total performance time must not exceed 10 minutes,
- at least one song must be original, i.e., newly composed music.
The deadline for receipt of entries is 4 May 2023.
